Get ready for design madness to take over the city! The annual Interior Design Show (IDS13) is returning to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this week, from January 24th to 27th.

300+ exhibitors and new, exciting features can make navigating the show floor quite a daunting task. Here’s our TOP TEN TO SEE AT IDS13 to get you started:

1. WORK.SPACE by National Bank - Booth #1328

This year’s presenting sponsor, National Bank, is hosting a contemporary exhibit based on the IDS13 concept space, How Do You Work?, exploring global innovative offices. Under the notion that inspired spaces lead to inspired work, National Bank has partnered with cool curator and website, Trend, alongside respected designer, Jentry Chin. Visitors are treated to an inside look at worldwide workspaces, Saatchi and Saatchi, Microsoft and Lego.

2. Studio North & Prototype

Back for its 11th year, Studio North is a IDS’ show-within-a-show that was originally used to showcase Canada’s independent design scene, from coast to coast. The gallery-like booth now features an array of custom collections ranging from furniture, lighting, glass, ceramics, textiles from 60 Canadian and international designers. Among them, we’re excited to see Chris Stevenson’s desk with PROJECTOR Design (above).

3. Andrew Richard Designs - Booth #1322

Luxury outdoor furniture brand Andrew Richard Designs will debut its latest collection of nautical-inspired outdoor furniture in a stunning, sophisticated booth reminiscent of European coasts. Showcasing NEW designs that highlight 2013 outdoor living trends, including mix-and-match patterns, textures, and materials like teak and the company’s signature Solartex weave, the seaside-like booth will be complete with a custom painting by a local Toronto artist.

4. designboom mart

Recognized as the first ever design bazaar, designboom mart is taking over the show floor with over 200 objects available for purchase (the first time ever at IDS!). Unique, affordable items – ranging from household products to jewelry, lighting to small furniture – will be sold by the young, international designers themselves.

5. How Do You Work? - Booth #2328

Montreal-based branding and interior design firm Igloodgn (run by co-founders Anna Abbruzzo and Alain Courchesne) is one of five design teams that will be featured in IDS13’s concept exhibit, How Do You Work? Challenged to produce a space inspired by an office setting within a 160 foot shipping container, Igloodgn presents THE GREEN HOUSE, an irreverent botanist’s dynamic working environment. The space will feature renowned brands Cassina, CeramicaBardelli, xilo1934, and Nemo lighting.

6. International Guest of Honour, Oki Sato presented by Caesarstone

Toronto-born, world-renowned Japanese minimalist designer, Oki Sato, joins IDS13 as the second International Guest of Honour. Sato, who heads up design firm Nendo – meaning free-form clay in Japanese – collaborated with Caesarstone to create a mesmerizing installation with the company’s surface materials, titled Stone Garden: a cluster of ‘table-like’ surfaces that form a seemingly floating landscape. Guests, get ready to be fooled.

7. Ciot’s Mosaic Maestro - Booth #1518

Founded in 1950, Ciot is a leading importer, distributor, retailer and cutter of marble, quartz, onyx, ceramic tile and stone for residential and commercial markets. Ciot will be showcasing its new made-to-measure mosaics created by Italian Mosaic Maestro Igor Marziali. Joining the IDS13 floor, Igor will be creating these artistic mosaics on-site in Ciot’s Burdifilek-designed for guests to experience his creative process.

8. High Low Design with Jill Greaves presented by National Bank

Interior designer Jill Greaves will be presenting a seminar on Saturday, discussing the top five items to consider before embarking on any renovation project. Touching upon budgeting, space planning, and value for the future, Jill Greaves will discuss were to save and splurge for every room of the house.

9. Modern Kid

Great design isn’t just for adults. Visit over 8 exhibits presenting what’s new in contemporary designs for children’s rooms, nurseries, kids rooms, playrooms and more. We’re excited to see what’s new at Gautier Kids and to check out Magic Pony and Three Pears’ spaces.

10. Globe Style Saturday

On Saturday at 2pm, Canadian design visionary Douglas Coupland will take the main stage to discuss his new body of work and ongoing take on high and low culture, technology, and changes in human existence caused by modern technologies. We worked with Coupland in November at the Design Exchange’s annual fundraising gala – he was selected as the inaugural DX Intersection Gamechanger. We can’t wait to hear what his next interdisciplinary move will be…
