#FEVENTS: TFI New Labels

The TFI New Labels® 2016 Fashion Show and Fundraiser was held at One King West on Tuesday, May 3, to a crowd of Canada’s fashion elite.

Now in its 29th year, four semi-finalists made their grand runway debut to Toronto’s sartorial luminaries amongst cocktails and fundraising buzz. The winning designer, Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks, founded Peggy Sue with the mission of revitalizing the North American farm and fiber industry. She works directly with farmers, start-up mills and artisans to design sustainable clothing that celebrates their skills.

The four contemporary womenswear designers in the running to showcase their collections include: Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks for Peggy Sue; Karen Quirion for KQK; Defne Husrevoglu for GUN CONTROL; and Angelene Fenuta for ANGELËNE.

Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks won a $25,000 cash award pledged by Suzanne Rogers, the largest individual cash prize donation within the Canadian fashion industry; she will also receive a one page feature in FLARE.
