From February 23rd to 26th, The Artist Project celebrated its 10-year anniversary at Toronto’s Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place. Connecting attendees with curators, gallerists and collectors, the fair boasted an impressive scene of over 250 contemporary Canadian and international artists. The theme, Birthday, was appropriately lauded with interactive exhibits, competitions, and performances and even a rousing art battle.

In honour of The Artist Project’s 10-year fete, we’re counting down 10 of our favourite exhibits from the four-day affair…

1.The Tenth Tide by Tracy Hiner – The perfect welcome upon entry, this 100-foot-long watercolour mural was an exceptional vision of depth, bold colour and texture.

2. Birthday Artist Competition -  Artists submitted their interpretations of the theme “BIRTHDAY.” First place winner Yasemin Oncu created a punchy Basquiat-inspired piece.

3. Installation Zone – Featuring artists like W.W. Hung, Carrie Chisholm and Michael Rennick, this exhibit blends technique and mixed mediums in eccentric forms.

4. Art Chats Seminar Series - Stylecooler Host and former House & Home editor, Mark Challen and Manager of StreetARToronto (StART), Lilie Zendel, are just a few speakers that were on-hand to discuss the topics like artwork in public spaces and social media in the art market.

5. Art Battle #494 – 20 minutes, 16 artists and a lot of paint equated to a vibrant and interactive showcase.

6. Rub by Kevin Holliday - Exploring the idea of identity creation and the self, the artist performed a durational meditation with audience interaction.

7. UNTAPPED Emerging Artists Competition – Presented by Deserres, emerging artist Moira Ness won a battle against 20 others to win a complimentary booth at The Artist Project 2018.

8. Art Walk Guided Tours – Five themed guided tours offered attendees a fresh perspective on exhibitions.

9. Fashion - Naturally, The Artist Project was the ideal outlet to showcase style from art aficionados and fashion lovers alike.

10. Opening Night Party – A collaboration of good people, good music and good food came together to celebrate opening night.
