3-Things: Pitching Long Lead

October 13, 2011

In PR, business and personal etiquette is extremely important when liaising with clients and media. Always:

1 - Do your homework

2 - Establish relationships

3 - Always say ‘Thank You’

In the real world, doing your homework is even more important than your schoolteachers said it was. It seems obvious, but there’s nothing worse than misspelling an editor’s name, contacting the wrong publication, or pitching content that is irrelevant to a particular writer. After homework, comes relationship building. Never forget that the relationship between media and PR should be mutually beneficial. We’re here to help! Finally, when a journalist writes about your client, remember to acknowledge them. See our post, Love Your Editor, for the best way to say ‘Thank You.’
