100% TobeUs: 100 Designers for 100 New Toy Cars
November 21, 2013
Who doesn’t love toys? From now until February 9th, Canada’s design museum the Design Exchange is housing over 100 mastermind-designed toy cars as part a must-see exhibition that balances the art of play with product design. 100% TobeUs was curated by Italian-based architect Matteo Ragni after watching his playful children quickly destroy and outgrow their toys. An idea was born: toys that stand the test of time.
Carefully crafted by world-renowned designers and starchitects, each TobeUs model is made from a block of strong, long-lasting, sweet-scented wood using only two cuts of a stump in equal size. Ragni discusses his innovative, world-travelling idea with the Globe and Mail today; read the Q&A.
The exhibit was first held in Milan, showcasing the talents of Karim Rashid, Marcel Wanders, Barber Osgerby, Jaime Hayon and more. And now with a stop at the DX, Canada’s talent is on display with the addition of designs by Philippe Malouin, Megan Oldfield, Patty Johnson, Hariri Pontarini Architects, +tongtong and more.
